IMPORTANT:  New ECC regulations ( CE882/2004) will come into effect from January 2007 that will affect companies involved with the food and agricultural industries. The regulations will enforce financial penalties on companies that are not operating an internal traceability system.

In this case traceability refers to a system that has the ability to retrieve history related to the use of and/or location of an item using a form of recordable identification. The definition of an entity is: an activity, a process, a product, an organism or a person.

When referring to a product the term Traceability relates to : the origin of materials and items, the processing history applying to a product, the distribution and location of a product after delivery.

 From the point of view of managing the information, it is possible to put in place a traceability in a supply chain system i.e. to associate or track an information flow with a physical flow of an entity.

The objective is to be able to retrieve when you want, pre-determined data relating to batches or groups of products, starting with one or more key identifiers.
